Wondering how to detect Google Chrome OS in your server logs? Here's how the Google Chrome OS user agent.

Wondering how to detect Google Chrome OS in your server logs? Here’s how the Google Chrome OS user agent.

1

79.8.208.125 - - [20/Nov/2009:23:21:31 +0000] "GET / HTTP/1.1" 200 2900 "-" "Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; CrOS i686 9.10.0; en-US) AppleWebKit/532.5 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/4.0.253.0 Safari/532.5"

I logged the user agent browsing my website with a Google Chrome developer preview. And here’s the Google Chrome Browser user agent on my Mac OS X.

1

79.8.208.125 - - [20/Nov/2009:23:24:45 +0000] "GET / HTTP/1.1" 200 2900 "-" "Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; Intel Mac OS X 10_5_8; en-US) AppleWebKit/532.5 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/4.0.249.0 Safari/532.5"

As you can see, the browser token is the same because both Google Chrome OS and my Mac are running the same browser version. Google Chrome OS identifies itself with the
CrOS i686 9.10.0
token, as you can see in the first user agent.

I’m wondering how long it takes before analytics software will start tracking Google OS users.

Search Marketing Arena aims to be a Q&A website about Search Marketing including (but not limited to) Search Engine Marketing (SEM), Search Engine Optimization (SEO) and advertising.

Last week I officially unveiled Search Marketing Arena, a new project I started in cooperation with my friend Simone. Search Marketing Arena aims to be a Q&A website about Search Marketing including (but not limited to) Search Engine Marketing (SEM), Search Engine Optimization (SEO) and advertising.

Search Marketing Arena is based on the same platform as other excellent Q&A sites such as StackOverflow, SuperUser and ServerFault. This is a really powerful and revolutionary platform that mixes together the best features from a wiki, a blog and a forum.

This means that Search Marketing Arena is different than other SEO focused discussion points such as Webmasterworld.com or Search Engine Watch. Off course, different doesn’t necessary mean better even if we would try to do our best to make the arena a nice place!

What makes Search Marketing Arena different is a user-focused project. Search Marketing Arena is absolutely free: no premium sections, no invitations required. You don’t need to register and you can ask questions or browse the site without an account.

If you decide to register, you can collect reputation and badges.

User list with badges and reputation

Badges are like medals. Badges are awarded automatically by the system depending on how you interact with the community. For example, you can gain a Student badge as soon as you ask your first question. You become a Supporter after your first vote.

Here’s a full list of available badges.

The list of available badges

The reputation is an other key feature. You gain reputation each time someone up-vote your questions or your answers. You also gain 15 points when your answer is accepted as the correct one.

Of course, if you don’t post good answer you might receive down votes too.

List of upvotes and downvotes

The higher is your reputation score, the wider is the range of features you have access to. Search Marketing Arena is collaboratively built and maintained by your fellow users. Once the system learns to trust you, you’ll be able to edit anything.

For more information about Search Marketing Arena and all its features read the FAQ page. Search Marketing Arena is also available on Twitter.

Description of Safari 4 beta user agent.

Apple has just released a beta version of the brand new Safari 4 browser. Safari 4 beta is available for both Mac OSX and Windows.

On Mac, Safari 4 identifies itself with the following user agent. The
Intel Mac OS X 10_5_6
token represents the os version the client is running, in this case Leopard.

1

Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; Intel Mac OS X 10_5_6; en-us) AppleWebKit/528.16 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/4.0 Safari/528.16

The following one identifies Safari 4 on Windows. The
Windows NT 5.1
token represents the version of Microsoft Windows os the client is running, in this case Windows XP.

1

Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; it-IT) AppleWebKit/528.16 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/4.0 Safari/528.16

Safari version can be extracted from the
Version/4.0
token, regardless the operating system behind the browser. Even in Safari 4 the browser doesn’t forsake the habit of injecting the cryptic Apple web kit version in the final user agent. You can see it identified by the token
AppleWebKit/528.16
.
